What should I bring?

Children, partners, dogs all most welcome. I know there is something wrong with that sentence but try as I might I cant find a better form of words. Forgive me.

It would be a good idea to bring a rug or camping chairs to sit on; especially if it has been wet. No sign of that now but even when dry a chair is a good idea. Chestnut husks are spiky as I have found to my cost.

As for food we will have a big chilli on the go with pitas and sacks of baked potatoes. There will be a DIY BBQ  (ie a fire!) and so do bring something to cook on that if you want.

Phones work pretty well in the wood. If you are lost don't hesitate to ring - you won't be the first!

Public transport

The nearest rail station is Marden (sorry about that Carolyn and Chris) although Paddock Wood isn't too far. There is a taxi firm in Paddock Wood and often, but not always, one or two by the station. The following cab companies will all pick up by arrangement from either station.

Paddock Wood Private Hire  (01892 832285  Mob: 07825 070619)
Paddock Wood Cabs (01892 511 911)
Goodfellows Taxis  (01892 837799)

If you are coming by train and taxi then it would be best to pre-book a cab and if you don't mind sharing then let me know and I can put those coming this way in touch with each other

Some websites you might be interested in

So hopefully you will be listening to this: http://www.pigs-sty.com/ while enjoying this

With any luck we will be drinking some of this http://www.royaltunbridgewellsbrewing.co.uk/ as well as cider from our garden, although also in a few years we could be drinking this  from next to the wood : http://www.kentvineyard.co.uk/.

If you want to stay somewhere nearby then there is the http://www.starandeagle.com/ in Goudhurst a few miles away or a B&B next to the wood http://www.cordonsbandb.co.uk/about.html with more suggestions on the Goudhurst website http://www.goudhurst.co.uk/

While I am at it, thanks also to http://www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk/ for all their help with the wood and especially to Lyndsey who not only advises us on how to look after woodland but is also one part of http://www.pigs-sty.com/. Neat huh?

Directions for the wood

I have made a Google map with the best places on the road to park and footpaths to get into Silver wood here: http://tinyurl.com/3fkfys4  and below

Greetings

Welcome to Silver Wood, part of Old Park Wood near Goudhurst in Kent. Silver wood is 10 acres of semi-natural ancient woodland; sweet chestnut coppice with oak standards and lots of invasive silver birch. With advice from the Kent Wildlife Trust we are gradually improving this long neglected woodland by restoring the coppice and maintaing the rides. By opening up the woodland we are already seeing more bluebells in spring, more inverterbrates in summer (the white admiral butterflies are fabulous) and generating wood for heating, for green energy generation and for crafts in the winter.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!
