The
nearest station is Marden (about 6 miles) and there are trains from Charing
Cross every 30 mins that take a little under an hour. The last train back to
London is just before 11pm.
Marden is a tiny station - don’t
expect there to be taxis (or even any people!) there. However, you can book
taxis in advance and I'd suggest starting with:
Streamline paddockwood@streamline.travel; 01892 838383
The taxi firm have people carriers
so if a group of you are coming together you can ask for one of these when
booking.
Its probably best to ask the taxi driver to drop you off, and
arrange to be collected, at the Peacock Inn, Goudhurst Road, TN17 2PB. To get
to the wood then with your back to the pub, turn right and walk about 100m and then on the
opposite side of the road is the South Gate (by the sign 'Woodlands for Sale'). Clamber over this and walk ten
mins up the main path until you see the signs for Silver Wood.
Cautionary note: this is a fiercely busy and fast road so be
careful. Ideally you might ask your taxi driver to take you straight to the
gate. If you tell him/her its near the Peacock in the direction of Cranbrook,
they will understand.
